Representative Torres Urges FEMA to Reimburse New York Providers

May 17, 2022

The April 27 House Committee on Homeland Security hearing reviewed the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) fiscal year 2023 budget request and heard testimony from DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY) expressed concern about the delay in the distribution of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) COVID-19 Public Assistance funds, citing a bipartisan letter (attached) from the entire New York Congressional delegation on numerous FEMA reimbursement issues. Representative Torres also requested that Secretary Mayorkas promptly distribute the funds to New York hospitals and other health care providers.

GNYHA thanked Representative Torres for highlighting FEMA reimbursement issues in a tweet. We will continue to advocate for the rapid distribution of funds and flexibilities for allowable expenses, including employee support costs.
