The programming provides an overview for clinicians and others in patient-facing roles on the considerations and best practices for providing patients with access to their health information.

This recorded educational webinar addresses the important clinical and legal reasons why patients should have access to their health information. From a clinical perspective, empowering patients to access their own health data is an important part of high-quality, patient-centered care. Also, recent clinical research studies show that accessing health information improves patient outcomes. In addition, patients have a legal right to access their health information, and it is a growing area of enforcement by the government.

To address both the clinical and legal perspectives, the education is structured as a conversation between a clinician and a lawyer, provides a high-level overview of the legal requirements, and reviews the literature on clinical outcomes.
