Mayor’s Office Announces Workforce Investments in Nursing Programs

June 2, 2025

GNYHA recently joined the New York City Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development and Deputy Mayor Adolfo Carrión, Jr., at the Citywide Nursing Investments Celebration at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur. The Mayor’s Office announced a $2 million investment in the Citywide Nurse Residency Program and the Nurse Fellowship Academy. The Citywide Nurse Residency Program, which GNYHA helped develop and implement with the New York Alliance for Careers in Healthcare (NYACH), recently reached a milestone of 7,500 enrolled nurses in 31 hospitals across the five boroughs. Each nurse will receive mentorship and other support throughout the first year of their career. The Nurse Fellowship Academy, which is administered with the City University of New York (CUNY), trains current and retired nurses as nurse preceptors and educators in academic and clinical settings.

GNYHA will continue to collaborate with the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development, NYACH, and CUNY to implement these and other innovative programs to strengthen the City’s health workforce pipeline.
