GNYHA Hosts First CHNA Survey Collaborative Meeting of 2025

March 24, 2025

GNYHA last week convened the first meeting of the 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) Survey Collaborative. The Collaborative helps participating member institutions obtain primary community health needs data from community members as part of the hospital Internal Revenue Service CHNA and the New York State Community Service Plan process.

Lloyd C. Bishop, GNYHA’s Senior Vice President & Executive Director, Center on Community Health Equity Policy and Services, gave a high-level overview of the Collaborative. He also outlined GNYHA and member hospital activities, including that leadership commitments and participation agreements from hospitals are required.

Benjamín González, GNYHA’s Senior Director, Community Health Engagement, said the Survey Collaborative includes approximately 40 participating facilities comprising five multi-hospital systems and nine independent hospitals. He also highlighted upcoming deadlines, including that the survey launches on May 30 and closes on July 31.

Dina Shapiro-Luft, PhD, GNYHA’s Senior Director, Surveys & Outcomes Research, provided a survey walkthrough. She noted the survey’s main components include health priorities and satisfaction assessments and sections on long-term effects of COVID-19, social determinants of health, and health care access. Dr. Shapiro-Luft also highlighted new survey items, including access to healthy, nutritious foods and affordable housing and homelessness prevention.
