Council Considers Resident Wellness, Vaccine Equity, Hospital Costs

The City Council held two hearings in September and will hold a third in October of interest to GNYHA members.

A September 24 Council Committee on Hospitals hearing examined “NYC Interns and Residents’ Wellness and Health.” GNYHA Senior Vice President Tim Johnson’s testimony addressed work hours regulations, member hospital activities to support resident wellbeing, and GNYHA initiatives to help interns and residents and promote wellness. A Committee on Hospitals and Committee on Health hearing on September 30 addressed COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and equity. GNYHA submitted a statement (attached) that detailed the State’s vaccination mandate for health care workers, workforce contingency plans, and vaccine equity efforts. The Committee on Hospitals and Committee on Health will hold a hearing on October 15 on “Oversight—Hospital Costs—Impact on Access to Care.” More information on the hearing is available here. A live stream of the hearing will be available here.
