The Unified Victim Identification System (UVIS) has been deactivated effective 4:00 p.m. today (May 26). Prior to the activation of UVIS, all hospitals were asked to identify a single phone number that the New York City Police Department (NYPD) could contact for any UVIS-related inquiries. Hospitals were asked to staff this line 24/7. Hospitals may now relieve staff from this task as UVIS has been deactivated, and hospitals can return to normal practices regarding patient reunification and identification.
UVIS was activated in New York City on April 18 to help manage and coordinate all activities related to patient reunification and identification. UVIS helped families locate loved ones, living or deceased, through coordinated efforts between the City’s 311 system, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, NYPD, and health care facilities. We thank all hospitals for their support with this process.
