GNYHA has prepared the below list of resources to help members implement the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) final rule setting forth its Conditions of Participation regarding emergency preparedness. Providers must be in compliance with the final rule by November 15, 2017.
Conditions of Participation and Accreditation Organization Crosswalk (CMS)
This Yale-New Haven Center for Emergency Preparedness and Disaster Response tool was developed in collaboration with national subject matter experts. The crosswalk maps emergency and disaster-related program, policy, communication, training, and exercise elements of regulatory and accreditation standards for all provider types included in the final rule against the CMS Emergency Preparedness Conditions of Participation. Released February 3, 2017
Emergency Preparedness Rule: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) (CMS)
CMS has released a fourth round of final rule FAQs and a separate document that defines several terms used in the Final Rule. GNYHA members are encouraged to review these FAQs documents.
GNYHA is developing draft recommendations related to compliance with specific aspects of the final rule’s training and testing components. GNYHA will seek member input on these draft recommendations. Once finalized, the recommendations will be sent to members and appropriate staff at the New York State Department of Health, given its role as the State survey agency for CMS. GNYHA also plans to convene a workgroup to discuss approaches to compliance within the ambulatory care setting.
Information related to the CMS Final Rule can be found on the GNYHA website in the Emergency Preparedness section. Please contact Jenna Mandel-Ricci at (212) 258-5314 with any questions about the CMS emergency preparedness final rule.
