Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2021

The annual Thanksgiving Day Parade will be taking place on Thursday (11/25) from 9:00 am to approximately 12:00 pm. The event is organized by Macy’s, event information can be found at: https://www.macys.com/social/parade/where-to-watch/?lid=cta_route-lp

Event Details

Balloon Inflation:

  • Date: November 24, 2021
  • The Balloon Inflation Event will have a vaccine check at the entry on Columbus Avenue/72nd Street
    • Masks will also be required in ticketed viewing areas
  • Event Start: 12:00 PM
  • Event End: 6:00 PM

Day of Parade:

  • Date: November 25, 2021
  • Event start: 9:00 AM
  • Event End: 12:00 PM

Estimated Attendance: In previous years the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has drawn 3.5 million spectators. Partners should know that we expect all parade elements and public attendance to be at pre-covid (2019) levels.

The Parade starts at West 77th Street and Central Park West, runs down to Columbus Circle, then down 6th Avenue and stops at Macy’s Herald Square.

Anticipate some rerouting of bus service in the area beginning the morning of November 25th and some subway bypass and station flow monitoring in the area of the event. City Actions

  • NYCEM will continue monitoring and provide updates as needed
  • FDNY and NYPD will have heavy presence in area to respond to any incident at or around event
  • Health and Medical ESF partners are advised to monitor for transit impacts and prepare for potential commuting and transportation impacts
  • Partners who experience impacts due to event operations are asked to contact NYCEM Health and Medical for assistance in mitigating impacts
