GNYHA is offering free training for frontline staff and managers that covers best practices for race and ethnicity data collection. More Inclusive Healthcare LLC, an organization that offers training and education programs that promote health equity, developed the course and worked with GNYHA to tailor it for member hospitals.
GNYHA’s course will help hospital staff understand the importance of the data that they are being asked to collect and provide tools and skills for patient interactions. The course highlights methods to elicit racial and ethnic data in a way that will make patients comfortable. Talking points and techniques to address common patient questions and concerns are also discussed. GNYHA designed this course to complement existing hospital training on race and ethnicity data collection protocols. The training is part of GNYHA’s multifaceted effort to help hospitals with patient demographic data collection and use efforts.
GNYHA will host multiple live virtual sessions throughout May and June (each session will review the same material). While the training is designed for registration staff and their managers, hospital leaders from human resources, diversity and inclusion, quality, or other disciplines are welcome to attend early sessions.
