Information on Ventilators from Government Stockpiles

June 9, 2020

On behalf of the New York State Department of Health and the Federal Strategic National Stockpile program, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is requesting an update on the status of ventilators that hospitals have received from emergency stockpiles as part of the COVID-19 response. All ventilators distributed are Vyaire (CareFusion) LTV-1200s.

Please download and complete the attached spreadsheet for ventilators that were received from emergency stockpiles. Once complete, please send the spreadsheet to Brent Archer at DOHMH.

If your facility wishes to return any ventilators, please follow the steps below. Return of ventilators is entirely voluntary at this time and is based on whether hospitals determine that the ventilators are no longer needed for current or anticipated patient care. Hospitals do not need to return all ventilators received at once. Please return ventilators in five to 10 ventilator increments. Return of ventilators does not preclude a facility from requesting emergency ventilators in the future.

Steps for ventilator return:

  1. If the ventilator has not been used, skip to step 4.
  2. Please clean and sanitize ventilator.
    1. Please follow the instructions outlined in the Vyaire (CareFusion) Medical LTV™ Ventilator Operator’s Manual for cleaning and sanitizing guidance.
  3. Please repack the ventilator in the yellow (“Pelican”) carrying case.
    1. Please include all removable but permanent items in the Pelican cases.
      1. Power cords
      2. Battery packs
      3. Canvas carrying case
    2. Do not return consumable items like circuits or filters.
    3. Please match ventilator by serial number to the appropriate Pelican case.
  4. Please palletize ventilators for pick up.
    1. Palletize in increments of five and do not exceed 20 ventilators per pallet.
    2. Shrink wrap pallets but allow for visibility so driver can count how many ventilators are on each pallet.
      1. If your facility does not have pallets, the driver will provide empty pallets and shrink wrap; please help the driver with building/loading new pallets.
  5. Complete the DOHMH Ventilator Return Request Form and upload the attached spreadsheet indicating which ventilators are being returned and are ready for pickup. Please use Chrome or Firefox when accessing this link.

DOHMH staff will contact the Pickup Point of Contact identified on the web form to coordinate pickup.
