DOH Revises HERDS PPE Reporting Schedule

November 2, 2021

The New York State Department of Health (DOH) has revised hospitals’ Health Electronic Response Data System’s (HERDS) personal protective equipment (PPE) reporting requirements. DOH had planned for hospitals to respond to HERDS’ PPE survey questions on the first Wednesday of each month, but recently made the following changes that go into effect tomorrow, November 2:

  1. HERDS PPE questions have been added back into the HERDS daily hospital survey to avoid having a separate PPE survey that respondents would need to complete once a month.
  2. Hospitals are now required to respond to the PPE survey questions monthly on Tuesdays rather than Wednesdays.
  3. System-affiliated hospitals that do not respond to the HERDS PPE survey questions because their PPE data is reported by an affiliated hospital must indicate which hospital is responding on their behalf.

Tomorrow marks the first Tuesday that hospitals will be required to report PPE on the new schedule.

As a reminder, hospital-specific reports showing the PPE amounts a hospital must maintain to meet the 60-day PPE stockpile requirements can be accessed on the Health Commerce Distribution Management System. If your hospital has questions about PPE requirements or reporting, please email hospinfo@health.ny.gov.
