This month, GNYHA will offer Infection Prevention and Control training sessions for frontline staff. The training sessions will be provided as part of Ladders to Value, a collaboration with 1199SEUI Training and Employment Funds and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. Participation in the training sessions is free.
Target Audience and Structure
This training will be targeted at staff who work with patients or residents and/or in spaces where patients or residents may be present. The virtual training will be provided in two two-hour modules on two consecutive days (see registration link information below). An individual organization may have different staff sign up for different sessions using the individual links below.
Dynamic Training Inc. and BA Smith Consulting LLC, two organizations with extensive experience delivering infection prevent training programs to frontline health care workers, will deliver the trainings.
Module 1 Content
Module 1 will discuss health care-acquired infections, their contributing factors, and their impact on long term care. The remainder will focus on understanding COVID-19; what is known to date regarding its transmission; and prevalence, signs and symptoms, and testing issues. Prevention through effective hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, cleaning and disinfection, and spatial distancing will be covered. While COVID-19 will be the emphasis, the strategies discussed will be applicable to other conditions.
Module 2 Content
Module 2 will review influenza, its common myths, how it is differentiated from COVID-19, and the importance of vaccination. The remainder will focus on action planning and coaching colleagues on infection prevention practices using masking and spatial distancing scenarios.
How to Sign Up for a Training Session
Each of the three training sessions is identical. Each participant should register for only one session. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend both modules of the session for which they register.
