Greater New York Hospital Association
Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), founded in 1904, is a one-of-a-kind trade association comprising nearly 300 hospitals and continuing care facilities, both voluntary and public, in the metropolitan New York area and throughout the State, as well as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Over the years, with the help of our members, we have redefined what a trade association is and should be, and have created a dynamic center for discussion and collective advocacy.

GNYHA’s Raske: “Health Care Alone Cannot Carry the Deficit Burden”

On November 13, the Greater New York Hospital Association, led by President Ken Raske, held a meeting to brief the hospital and long term care membership on the current political environment, the impact of Governor Paterson’s proposed cuts, and how the provider community must join together to aggressively advocate for shared responsibility across all sectors for the budget deficit. Mr. Raske noted that, given New York State’s economic situation, no sector can be held harmless from cuts in the upcoming budget discussions.

Obama Wins Presidency, Democrats Expand Majority in House, Senate

Albany Under Single Party Control as Democrats Flip State Senate

With 364 electoral votes (to date), America has elected Democrat Barack Obama as 44th President of the United States. Democrats also fared well in Congress, picking up 5 seats in the United States Senate and 18 seats in the House of Representatives, giving the party solid majorities in both houses. New York Congressman Charles Rangel (D-NY 15), Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, soundly won his reelection bid, as did New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone (D-NJ 6).

In New York State, Democrats are set to control the Legislature as well as the Executive, returning the State to single-party control for the first time since the 1930s. Democrats reportedly captured 32 of the 62 seats in the Senate.
