Behind the White Coat

 Volume 3, Issue 1

This issue’s Behind the White Coat segment features Shantie Harkisoon, M.D., from Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, New York. Dr. Harkisoon is the Program Director for Phelps’ first residency program, which will also be the first family medicine residency program newly accredited in New York State since 1995.

The video also features key leaders from Phelps and the Open Door Family Health Center where the residents will do their outpatient work. Collectively, this group has been integral in launching this program and helping New York address the national shortage of primary care doctors.

 


 

 Volume 2, Issue 4

This issue’s “Behind the White Coat” segment features David Rubin, M.D., Chairman and Program Director of Pediatrics at St. Barnabas Hospital (SBH) in the Bronx. Dr. Rubin established the residency program and has been with SBH since the hospital first opened a pediatrics department in 1999 in response to community need. Dr. Rubin is being featured because he is regarded as a gifted teacher and administrator with a deep personal interest in the education and progress of each individual in his training program. This issue’s “Behind the White Coat” segment features Dr. Rini Banerjee Ratan, Program Director and Medical Student Clerkship Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Columbia campus of NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital (NYPH–Columbia). Dr. Ratan is being featured for her strong commitment to education and her innovative approach to teaching medical students and residents using advanced simulation techniques. Using simulation has helped her students and residents build their technical skills in a safe, interactive environment while fostering a culture of teamwork. Volume 2, Issue 2

This issue’s “Behind the White Coat” segment features Dr. Saima Chaudhry, Internal Medicine Residency Program Director for the Hofstra-North Shore–Long Island Jewish (NS-LIJ) School of Medicine program. Dr. Chaudhry is being featured for her strong commitment to education and innovative approach to redesigning the ambulatory care experience for her residents. This redesign will also benefit the patients who seek primary care at NS-LIJ facilities. Her efforts display a unique understanding of the challenges that medical educators face today.
