Federal, State & Local Initiatives

Public health improvement priorities established by government agencies on which communities, public health officials and health providers can collaborate to improve the public’s health.

  • Prevention Agenda Toward the Healthiest State, a New York State Department of Health initiative that identifies ten priorities for improving the health of all New Yorkers and asks local health departments and their health care and community partners to work together to address them.
  • New York City Take Care New York Initiative, a New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene initiative that recommends coordinated action and evidence-based interventions designed to improve the health status of all New Yorkers.
  • Healthy People 2010, a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services initiative that sets out a series of national health objectives to be achieved over the next decade.
  • Steps to a Healthier U.S. Initiative, a White House initiative managed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that is designed to increase awareness among Americans of the importance of personal fitness and becoming healthier.
