Perinatal Safety Collaborative

Welcome to the GNYHA and UHF Perinatal Safety Collaborative

Collaborative Start Date: October 2007

In response to the growing challenges in the area of perinatal safety, GNYHA and UHF launched the perinatal Safety Collaborative in the fall of 2007.

Providing care to patients in the Perinatal setting is both complex and rewarding. The multitude of factors that impact outcomes including the level of prenatal care of the expectant mother, the variation in practice protocols and staffing models utilized by hospitals, and the ability of the clinicians to communicate effectively as a team, all pose challenges to providing the highest quality of care in the safest manner possible.

The GNYHA/UHF Perinatal Safety Collaborative is designed to address these many challenging issues and to assist member hospitals with improving the quality of their obstetrical and perinatal care processes and to reduce the incidence of perinatal and maternal injuries using a structured and standardized approach to patient care. By improving perinatal safety and the quality of care provided, this Collaborative also seeks to reduce the incidence of adverse events and medical malpractice claims, as well as the escalating medical malpractice insurance premiums that are driving obstetricians out of the practice across the region.
