"Resident for a Day" Continues

On November 16, New York State Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz (D-Bronx) participated in GNYHA’s Resident for a Day program at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Allen Pavilion.

Assemblyman Dinowitz participated in the Internal Medicine Department’s intensive care unit (ICU) rounds and also observed an attending physician and a resident perform a surgical procedure in the operating room, again underscoring the continuous medical training and education of residents.

On November 20, New York State Senator Suzi Oppenheimer (D-Westchester) and New York State Assemblyman Adam Bradley (D-Westchester) also participated in the Resident for a Day program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Westchester Division. Both legislators attended multidisciplinary rounds in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department. Attending physicians, residents, and fellows discussed the complexities of diagnosing children and adolescents with a mental illness and developing the appropriate treatment plan. The legislators also took part in a discussion with the Geriatric Psychiatry unit’s attending physicians and residents, during which they shared with the legislators various treatment protocols for elderly patients who are mentally ill.

On November 19, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center also hosted its second Resident for a Day program. Assemblyman William F. Boyland, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) visited the hospital to gain a firsthand experience of physician training in the community teaching hospital setting. Kingsbrook had previously hosted State Senator John Sampson (D-Brooklyn) as Resident for a Day.
