The GNYHA received grants in 2006 from the Jonas Center for Nursing Excellence and the New York State Department of Health to develop a program that will help to alleviate the nursing shortage.

GNYHA conducts bi-annual surveys of its membership to monitor the status of the nursing workforce on an ongoing basis. In addition, GNYHA works with the Center for Workforce studies to conduct periodic surveillance of the workforce and factors that affect it.

This training program, developed with funding received from the New York State Department of Health under the Health Workforce Retraining Initiative, assists GNYHA member hospitals in training staff to incorporate aspects of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services quality measures into their daily responsibilities.
