Critical Care Leadership Network

The Critical Care Leadership Network (CCLN) is composed of executive leadership and interdisciplinary hospital staff who are leaders in the fields of critical care medicine, surgery, and nursing and are active in critical care initiatives and associations both locally and nationally. The core mission of CCLN is to coordinate a unified approach for delivering critical care services in the New York metropolitan area by sharing and standardizing the implementation of evidence-based practices and the training of clinicians, in an effort to improve patient outcomes in the ICU setting.

The CCLN Steering Committee, comprising 30 members from 14 hospitals within the Greater New York region, meets in person on a bi-monthly basis to guide, oversee, and set the priorities for CCLN overall. The CCLN Steering Committee has chosen the following core areas to focus on:

  • Collecting and using data effectively to set priorities (Click here for information about the 2008 CCLN 24-hour Survey of Intensive Care Units)
  • Implementing evidence-based practice in the critical care setting
  • Developing optimal ICU staffing models
  • Addressing the workforce shortage in the ICU
  • Recognizing the role of critical care outside the ICU
  • Monitoring bed utilization and patient throughput
  • Providing end-of-life care and addressing organ donor/recipient issues
  • Using simulation and other training models
