GNYHA has a HIPAA Transactions and Code Sets workgroup that meets regularly to facilitate HIPAA implementation for GNYHA members. At these workgroup meetings, members share implementation strategies, challenges, and testing approaches, and are apprised of any regulatory changes. Payer and provider collaboration during the HIPAA implementation process is critical to ensuring a smooth transition. Payers participate in the GNYHA workgroup meeting to discuss ambiguous data elements, expectations for optional data elements, testing, and implementation timelines. These workgroup meetings provide a forum for providers to articulate to payers key changes to facilitate their HIPAA implementation and maximize electronic transactions.
