The last few years have seen an increased focus on Medicaid program integrity from both Federal and State authorities. New York in particular has been a center of action; our Medicaid Inspector General, Jim Sheehan, is considered the nation's expert in health care fraud enforcement, and Mr. Sheehan and his staff are undertaking a series of hospital audits, among other measures. GNYHA has been very active in this area, combining its legal, compliance, finance, and billing resources to provide technical support to members, reduce unneceessary audits and enforcement actions, and more broadly advocate for change as needed.
