Legal, Regulatory, and Professional Affairs

The Legal, Regulatory, and Professional Affairs Department is responsible for GNYHA’s considerable efforts to help GNYHA members achieve their core goal of providing high-quality, safe and efficient health care for their communities as well as enhancing emergency preparedness and organizational compliance activities. Areas of expertise include providing safe patient care and reducing adverse events; preparing for public reporting of quality and outcome measures; addressing workforce shortages; addressing health disparities; using IT to improve patient care; complying with accreditation and licensure requirements; enhancing behavioral health services; enhancing pre-hospital care services; providing emergency preparedness training programs and briefings; conducting emergency preparedness drills; working with local, State and Federal agencies to develop surge capacity; enhancing emergency communication systems; facilitating member responses to emergencies; helping members comply with billing and other requirements; tax-exempt organization and governance issues; corporate compliance; HIPAA privacy and security requirements; and planning issues.
