At its gala event saluting hospitals and health care on September 29, 2003, the United Hospital Fund (UHF) gave Special Recognition to GNYHA for its contributions to improving health care in New York. UHF also honored John J. Mack, CEO of Credit Suisse First Boston and Co-CEO of Credit Suisse Group, and Chairman of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Board of Directors, who received UHF's Health Care Leadership Award. The event, which took place at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, celebrated UHF's 125-year anniversary and its long-time fundraising work on behalf of New York City's non-profit hospitals.
GNYHA—along with its leadership, President Kenneth E. Raske and Chairman Stanley Brezenoff—was honored by UHF "for its significant impact and contributions to health care in New York City over nearly 100 years of service," and was acknowledged as "a tireless and dedicated advocate for New York's hospitals."
"The United Hospital Fund is proud to honor John J. Mack and to recognize Greater New York Hospital Association for their leadership and commitment to improving health care for all New Yorkers," said UHF President James R. Tallon, Jr. He praised both honorees for their "extraordinary impact on health care services in our city," noting that "their leadership has benefited New York City's entire health care community."
