Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA), founded in 1904, is a trade association comprising nearly 250 hospitals and continuing care facilities, both voluntary and public, in the metropolitan New York area and throughout the State, as well as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. GNYHA is a dynamic, constantly evolving center for health care advocacy and expertise, but our core mission—helping hospitals deliver the finest patient care in the most cost-effective way—never changes.

Governor Cuomo Releases Proposed 2012-2013 NYS Budget

On January 17, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo released his proposed budget for State fiscal year (SFY) 2012–13, which begins on April 1, 2012.

The budget proposes spending cuts and agency streamlining initiatives to close the 2012–2013 $2 billion deficit and hold year-over-year State operations spending growth to only 1.9%. It also proposes a 4% increase in State Medicaid spending.

CMS Proposes New DSH Rule

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on January 13 released a proposed rule that would expand the definition of “uninsured” to calculate the hospital-specific Medicaid disproportionate share hospital (DSH) cap. Comments on the proposed rule are due February 17. Read more in ML-7

GNYHA and HANYS Form New Partnership

The NYS Partnership for Patients (NYSPFP), a joint initiative of GNYHA and the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS), has been designated as a Hospital Engagement Network under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) national Partnership for Patients initiative. NYSPFP is among 26 organizations that received a two-year contract, with an option to extend to a third year, to help hospitals meet CMS’ goals to reduce hospital-acquired conditions and preventable readmissions.
